The Scientific Argument for Mastering One Thing at a Time

In his book, “The Single Best Strategy for Achieving Success”, Tony Robbins argues that the key to success is mastering one thing at a time. He contends this is the only way to achieve true mastery and reach your fullest potential.

There are many reasons why mastering one thing at a time is the best strategy for success. First, it allows you to focus on one task at a time and give it your full attention. This allows you to improve your skills in a specific area, learn new information quickly, and become better acquainted with the particulars of what you are doing. Second, by focusing on one task at a time, you eliminate distractions from other tasks and activities that may be vying for your attention. Consequently, when you finally succeed in completing an important task, it feels more satisfying because you have dedicated yourself fully to it. Third, when you master one thing well enough, it becomes easier and faster to apply that skill or knowledge to other areas of your life. As a result of this cumulative learning process, you can achieve greater levels of achievement in virtually any area of endeavor.

While there are certainly exceptions to every rule (e.g., some people may be better suited for multiple-tasking), the overwhelming evidence suggests that mastery of one skill or subject at a time is the key to achieving success. Accordingly, if you want to achieve lasting success in your life, I recommend embracing the single best strategy for achieving success – mastering one thing at a time!
